YouTube is keen on merging with Google Play Music in the coming months, which means Google will have another music app for users. What will they call it? Nobody knows yet, but this news could only help Google fix its problem when it comes to offering a high-quality music service platform.

Google’s head reportedly said that merging both products could enable the team to work with purpose and a strong idea. So, the likelihood of YouTube Red and Google Play Music forming into one product, could ease the confusion among its users.

Google never found the right formula for music listeners, and unlike the Apple Music ecosystem (iTunes before that), Google has been fiddling with various products, that do the same thing for different markets.

For instance, Google doesn’t offer YouTube Red (YTR) service in India, where they’ve decided to roll out Google Play Music instead. When YTR was announced, I was hopeful that like most Google products, it will also come to India, instead we got the Play Music (paid version) that doesn’t really give you the experience (UI-wise) that YTR does.

I’ve always felt that Google’s already had a strong Apple Music competitor with YouTube, all they just needed was to structure it better.

This development could only help Google improve its fortunes, and most people wouldn’t mind seeing a YouTube-like app that doesn’t stop playing music, even if the phone’s screen is locked (hate it whenever that happens on YT)
