Google has announced the Asus Chromebit for India.
Priced at Rs 7,999 Asus Chromebit is a PC-on-stick running on Chrome operating system and much akin to the Windows version of PC-on-stick, Google hopes to compensate for its lack of interest in Chromebook with this pocket device.
Chrome OS is based on the web browser but caters to Google products like Search, YouTube and Drive in the form of web apps. The platform is reliant on the user being on the internet 24x7, or else his usage is limited to watching movies or working on documents with the help of external storage device. Asus Chromebit will be available in the country from January 2016.
While Android has enabled Google to stake its claim in the mobile arena, their landscape in the PC space has not lived up to expectations.
