The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Mohit Goel, the chief executive officer of Ringing Bells. His statement is currently being recorded at the ED headquarters.
ED had launched a probe into the matter after receiving complaints from customers that they have not received mobile handsets after payment. The company had boldly promised to get the cost down to Rs 251 for a smartphone called Freedom 251.
Ringing Bells had come under the radar of the Income Tax department after raising alarm bells about whether the company will actually deliver the product on time. Officials say that they suspect that the company may run away with the money paid by the customers if they fail to deliver the product in time.
Earlier this month, Ringing Bells had started the process of refunding money to customers due to the negative speculation.
