Vivo Mobile in India has taken cricket’s aid in its bid to become known to people across the country. The company from China heads the list of sponsors for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 and on this occasion, they have launched the V3 and V3 Max smartphones.

Both these phones embody Vivo’s current position in the country – a Chinese brand looking to make inroads into the crowded Indian mobile space.

The Vivo V3 series smartphones offer you hardware that is matched by phones priced around Rs 20,000 these days. You get a variant with HD resolution display, while the costlier one offers you Full-HD quality. The construction of the phone’s display gets a 2.5D Corning Glass.

Both models offer 3GB and 4GB of RAM respectively, but the form size difference – Vivo V3 at 5-inch and Vivo V3 Max at 5.5-inch – makes a world of difference. It’s hard to ignore the phones’ similarities to the Apple iPhone 6S, and when you consider that the company is offering a Rose Gold variant, you can see what we mean.

The company is boasting its fingerprint scanner which is quick enough for users to take selfies in no time. We’ll have to use the phone on a regular basis to see if those claims are justifiable. There’s ample storage space for users with 32GB onboard, expandable further up to 128GB.

You’ll find that both the phones are easy to carry with their weight ratio, and thickness at less than 8-mm is more or less the trend these days. However, we’re not sure if the allocated battery sizes are enough for full-day usage on a single charge.

It’s strange to see that for a price difference of over Rs 8,000, you don’t get cameras of better quality. The V3 and V3 Max both come with a 13-megapixel shooter at the back and an 8-megapixel camera on the front. We’re sure the people looking to buy the phone will have same questions.

Vivo V3 and V3 Max will find it hard to compete with the rest in this segment, especially when you consider that the Xiaomi Mi 5 costs you Rs 24,999.
