Google India announced the Google Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P in India just days before the India launch of the Apple iPhone 6s. The phones start shipping from 21 October 2015 and are not very comfortably priced.

The Google Nexus 5X is made by LG and is the successor to the Google Nexus 5. The phone is priced at Rs 31,990 (16GB) and Rs 35,990 (32GB) and is bundled with a lot of offers.

The Google Nexus 5X sports a 5.2-inch full HD IPS Display that’s a big improvement over the Nexus 5. The display was bright, crisp and sharp but still a little reflective.

LG has loaded the Google Nexus 5X with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Hexa-Core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A57 backed by 2GB RAM. We can’t comment on the performance of the device right now, but it definitely seemed peppy.

The phone runs on Google’s latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system that has less bloatware and also fewer pre-loaded apps than what we’re used to on the Nexus device. The fingerprint scanner at the back is also promising and rather well placed.

Google has worked on the user interface with improved heads up notifications and smart app searches within the phone for Apps.

Our slight itch is with the build quality of the Nexus 5X. It just doesn’t feel as premium as the Nexus 5. The phone has some loose edges and is on the lighter side.

The phone comes with a 12.3-megapixel imaging sensor with 1.12-micron pixels. The camera looked impressive enough for a Rs 30,000 smartphone. The front camera that has a 5-megapixel count also looks promising.

The Google Nexus 5X comes with a 2700mAh battery that Google says will last you more than a day. It also has software tweaks like a doze mode that kills background apps when you don’t use your smartphone for a while.

The Google Nexus 5X promises a lot for buyers who are looking for a pure stock Android experience and it does have an appeal right now as the Nexus phones will be the only ones first available with the latest Marshmallow operating system.

But with smartphones like the Moto X Play and the Moto X Style which will be getting an update soon and are cheaper, the Nexus 5X is in for some competition.
