Micromax has added another Canvas smartphone to its line-up with the Canvas Xpress. After bringing multiple 3G-only devices, the Xpress is the first 4G phone from the brand priced under Rs 7,000 and it’s the cheapest 4G phone you can buy right now.
Micromax Canvas Xpress looks and feels like a product that caters to the affordable mobile segment in India.
While the size of the Canvas Xpress 4G is right, they have stuck with HD resolution. For a 5-inch display, the Xpress 4G offers bright colours but may fall short of being an outdoor-friendly device. We don’t have much to complain about the build quality; the phone has a strong plastic removable body at the back and physical touch buttons on the front.
Talking about the hardware, Micromax has opted for the quad-core power of Mediatek and with 2 GB RAM, the Xpress 4G should be easy to use without major issues in sight. With 16 GB storage available innards, saving applications won’t be a hassle and you can expand the space further up to 32 GB as well.
The 8MP back camera on the Canvas Xpress 4G is average, with detailed images only in broad daylight. But nobody really expects a 2 MP selfie camera to be extraordinary.
Micromax has not really learnt its lesson with respect to the battery. Much like the previous Canvas phones, the Xpress 4G comes equipped with a meager 2000mAh unit that may not be enough for the phone to last the whole day on a single charge.
At Rs 6,499 the Micromax Canvas Xpress 4G is a quality 4G-capable phone which could be a hit among those who are not comfortable with a Chinese brand. It is available only via Flipkart and that might help them in Tier I and Tier II cities.
