Facebook has launched a dedicated web interface for its messenger service called Messenger.com. The service is available only in English for now, with plans for worldwide expansion in the works.
Users can still send messages through Facebook, but the new interface caters to those who use the social networking site exclusively for keeping in touch with friends. The new interface has an expansive chat window in the centre and previous conversation threads towards the left. Most of the mobile app’s features including audio and video calls can be used on the Messenger site.
Separating the social networking site from its Messenger service creates a space for Facebook to introduce features that could differentiate it from SMS and other messaging apps like Whatsapp.
