Netflix is here folks, and chances are we will be able to stream global video content like never before. The company has announced its Indian availability for consumers on Android, iOS and desktop.
This basically implies that you get uncensored (say goodbye to the beeps) shows like Game of Thrones, or House of Cards in the country without going the not-so-legal way of downloading torrents.
It’s not free, but for what its worth, you finally have an Apple Music-like service for online streaming of video content in the country. Need more answers? Read on.
Netflix is the new-age medium of watching video content via online streaming right onto your mobile, tablet and even PC. The brand has worked on original-Netflix shows like Kevin Spacey’s House of Cards, Pablo Escobar-inspired Narcos and Orange is the New Black, available to subscribed customers ad-free, streaming at basic HD (720 pixels) and UHD (4K) resolutions.
In India, Netflix will be challenging the duopoly of cable (or DTH) operators like Tata Sky and other streaming platforms like Hotstar (by Star) and Spuul, among others.
Netflix has streaming plans for streaming in the country starting from Rs 500 (basic), and going up to Rs 800 for 4K or Ultra-High definition content (if you’ve got the 4K-enabled device in first place).
You’re best-bet lies with the Rs 650 plan which offers HD streaming, as well as watching shows on two devices at the same time. Pay via credit card, where you will be charged Rs 70, just so that the account details shared are legit.
Although content on Netflix is not censored, but at the time of signing up, you have to certify that you’re above 18 years of age.
Netflix in India will have censored content according to US standards. This means a huge Hollywood library, TV shows, and the Netflix original series. Netflix has limited Indian content, but they are in the process of getting more partners onboard. Bollywood classics like Hum Aapke Hai Kaun are already part of it. Availability of such titles will enable Netflix to become a popular choice for independent cinema.
As notified by users, there is a wide range of content available for kids too.
Netflix shows can be accessed on Android, iOS (phones as well as the tablet), Windows phones and tablets, on the web browser on a PC, Smart TV platforms, Apple TV box, Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox consoles as well as streamed using a Google Chromecast supported device, and Blu-Ray players.
