In its bid to compete with Reliance JioFiber in the broadband segment, public-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has revised the prices of its entry-level data plan for fixed line internet users in the country.
With JioFiber plans starting from Rs 699 per month, offering up to 150GB with 100Mbps data speed, BSNL feels that offering more data for less than 100 bucks more will attract new users to its side.
Which is why, as spotted by TelecomTalk first, the telecom player has made changes to its Rs 777 data plan, which is now being offered as a promotional plan for 90 days. For this price, users are getting 500GB data limit, speeds clocking up to 50Mbps, and post the limit, speeds come down to 2Mbps.
Interestingly, the plan detailed on BSNL’s Bharat Fibre section of the website carries few conditions, which are as follows.
BSNL is very much in the mix with its broadband service. You’ll be surprised to know that the telecom operator is still the leading wired internet player in the country. But its position could change with the launch of JioFiber.
In terms of its fibre plans given here, you can sign up for anything between Rs 777 to Rs 9,999 but it’s worth noting that BSNL only caters to 50Mbps and 100Mbps data speed with high amount of data usage on offer.
Whereas with JioFiber, you’ll get internet speeds up to 1Gbps in due course of time. The Reliance-owned player is also giving free 4K set-top box and Wi-Fi router (for a nominal deposit) as part of its JioFiber Welcome Offer.
In addition to BSNL, JioFiber will also face competition from Airtel, ACT Fibernet and slew of local internet providers.
