Shazam, the music discovery app, bought by Apple few years back, is now letting you identify songs titles while your phone is plugged to a headphone. This feature is currently rolling out to Android users only, which is surprising considering Apple owns the platform.

The search feature was first spotted by the guys at XDA Developers, and we managed to get it working on Android, compatible with version 9.33 of Shazam. The feature isn’t intrusive, doesn’t ask for your data, something that’s expected from app owned by Apple.

Music discovery is much coveted by users, and offering this feature while hooked on the headphone is a smart move by Shazam.

How to Discover Music on Shazam with Headphone

  • Open Shazam app, plug headphone to the phone
  • Tap on the Shazam icon to identify the song playing in the background
  • Play the music on Apple Music or Google Play Music (whichever you’ve signed up for)
  • Let Shazam open on top of other apps, get access to lyrics of the song you discovered on the app

It is assumed that Shazam intends to bring this feature to iOS at some point in the future but considering after iPhone 7 you can’t use headphones (without relying on USB to lightning connector), we think that Shazam might support this feature on AirPods instead.

In addition to this, Android users can also use Shazam to find songs, and get access to their lyrics as well, which shows up the screen. So, next time you’re karaoking, this might be the best use of the feature.
