Amazon’s music service is now available to all Prime members in India. The music streaming service adds to Amazon’s existing Prime boutique products; Video and Shopping.
According to Amazon, Prime Music is an ad-free streaming service which can be controlled via its Alexa voice assistant for its Prime members in the country. It also clarified that Amazon Prime members can now enjoy their favourite music across millions of songs in multiple languages at no additional cost.
Amazon Prime Music is available as Android and iOS apps, a desktop app, a web player, and apps for the Amazon Fire TV sticks and Amazon Echo devices. This way, Amazon is fulfilling its ambition to move Prime customers into an integrated ecosystem.
Amazon Prime Music includes songs across major international and Indian music labels in over 10 languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi, Bengali, Kannada, Telugu and more.
After giving Amazon Music a quick browse-through, we did find international artists like Ed Sheeran, Steven Wilson and Justin Bieber, among others, but clearly there’s a long way to go before it matches up to the catalogue of Gaana or Google Play Music and Saavn among others.
Users can simply tap the Alexa icon in the Amazon Prime Music app and ask for favourite songs, albums and artists.
Amazon claims that Prime Music has specially created playlists and stations which cater to Indian customers. You can also build customised and personalised playlists which can be shared with family and friends.
We’re not sure how Prime Music works for customers who are not Prime members, but we’ll check and update the story with more information. Right now, Indian users are spoilt for choice when it comes to music streaming, with Apple Music, Google Play Music, Saavn and Gaana in the fray. Spotify, strangely, yet to hit the market.
