Artificial intelligence has gained enough attention already, including India. So, it’s hardly surprising to see that an AI-powered robot is about to greet people and take care of their needs at an airport in the country.
The robot called RADA, has been built by one of the domestic airlines company, and will be servicing fliers from 5 July at the Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi. According to a statement from the airline, RADA will continuously improve the software, to provide more services after receiving customer feedback over the coming months.
The robot is built on a chassis of four wheels, enabling it to rotate 360-degrees, and it has three in-built cameras that helps RADA interact with people in its vicinity.
For the time being, RADA will be able to help fliers with scanning their boarding passes, inform them about the departure gate for his/her flight. It will also inform them about the current weather conditions of the city they’re travelling to, real-time flight status will also be provided by the robot.
It can greet customers and interact with them using basic hand movements, and is capable of moving around in the lounge on predefined pathways.
Additionally, it can engage with kids and adults alike by playing games and other multimedia content such as songs and videos, as highlighted in the statement by Vistara.
It’s a unique initiative from Vistara, which is likely to ease the boarding process for travellers, ease the burden on the airport staff as well. If the project works out for the airline, we’d expect other brands to look at similar on-board mechanism for their customers too.
We’ve have already seen how robots are becoming crucial in the day-to-day functioning of many businesses. With robot solutions like RADA, everyone will be able to use such technology on a daily basis.
