After Galaxy Note 7’s Troubles, Reliance Jio Phone Now Explodes

The user’s tweet about the explosion also invited a response from former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah.

Adding to the woes of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance, a man reported on Sunday that his Lyf phone, which comes under the recently launched Reliance Jio division, “exploded” and “burst into flames”.

Tanvir Sadiq, according to his Twitter handle, is the political secretary to the working president of the opposition National Conference party in J&K. He posted pictures of the burnt mobile phone on Twitter and claimed his family had a “narrow escape”.

Sadiq also asked the users of Lyf phones to be cautious, and appealed to Reliance to look into the matter and take immediate action.

In response, the official handle for Reliance’s Lyf phones apologised to the user and claimed that it is investigating the issue. However, the user did not mention the burnt phone’s model, and did not explain how exactly the phone caught fire.

Notably, National Conference Omar Abdullah also responded to Sadiq’s tweet about the incident, stating, “I won’t be using my handset anytime soon”.

The incident comes in the context of various users complaining about their phones catching fire – especially the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

The South Korean company suffered a huge setback as it was forced to call back its flagship Samsung Galaxy Note 7 line, after it received various complaints of the phone catching fire and exploding.

Ambani’s company also issued a statement after the incident.

LYF range of phones are designed and manufactured with global standards by some of the world’s leading manufacturers of mobile phones. We are concerned about the incident reported in social media and are taking the matter seriously. We are assessing the cause and will conduct a thorough investigation in the matter.

After its highly publicised launch, Reliance Jio has been facing persistent obstacles, including issues with other network operators as well as complaints by its users about its service.
