Addressing the 44th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries, Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday, 24 June, announced a new smartphone, ‘JioPhone Next’ – which has been jointly developed by Google and Jio.
As per Ambani, it will be “the most affordable smartphone globally.”
It is slated to be available from 10 September.
JioPhone Next is powered by an optimised version of Android OS jointly developed by Jio and Google.
As per Ambani, “It is ultra-affordable and packs cutting-edge features.”
In addition to the new smartphone, the Reliance chairman also spoke about the advances made by the company’s broadband arm JioFiber and Jio’s foray into 5G:
Informing that their “business and financial success since last Annual General Meeting has exceeded expectations,” Ambani further said:
“But what has given me more happiness than our business performance is RIL’s humanitarian efforts during these difficult times.”
Ambani also inducted Yasir Al Rumayyan into the board of Reliance Industries as an independent director and announced that the $15 billion oil deal with Aramco will be completed this year.
Rumayyan is the chairman of Saudi Aramco and governor of the Kingdom's wealth fund, Public Investment Fund.
