It took Amazon 10 years to come up with a waterproof Kindle, but what really confuses me is do I really need a waterproof Kindle?
The new Kindle is called Oasis and is based on last year’s design with IPX8 waterproof certification. The company says it can function in up to 2 meters of water for 60 minutes.
Waterproofing an e-reader! Don’t really feel the need to do that. I mean who in their right mind would read in the rain or take the Kindle swimming with them?
It uses a larger 7-inch screen and sports a full metal body which is 3.4mm thick and weighs in at 194 grams.
Though it looks a bit lopsided, it balances well in your hands and also comes with a detachable cover that one can also use as a stand.

I suppose the highlight of the device is the larger 7-inch display, which can hold 30 percent more text than before (according to Amazon).
Resolution remains sharp at 300ppi (pixels per inch) and includes 12 LEDs for uniform lighting.
There are a few more changes in the new Kindle Oasis like the starting memory amount has been doubled to 8GB.
Now you can also invert the display and there is an in-built sensor that adjusts the brightness based on the kind of lighting you are under. Similar feature was available in earlier launched models. It also comes with new font options.

Another great addition is the support for Audible audiobooks. Most of the audiobooks are available on Kindle which you can download.
With the audiobooks feature, you can connect it to any bluetooth speaker or headphones. If you want to switch back to the text version, you can do that too. Also, India will only receive the Wi-Fi + free 3G model.
