We all know that OnePlus is working on its version of a smart television, which was first expected to launch by 2020. However, reports coming in this week suggest the launch time frame might be earlier than we thought.
The news about the upcoming product was shared by Pete Lau, Founder and CEO, OnePlus in September last year through this tweet.
OnePlus will be the latest mobile brand to foray into this space, where we’ve already got names like Xiaomi, Micromax and established giants like Samsung and LG among others.
Here’s everything we know about the upcoming product from the smartphone giant, and what it promises in a competitive market.
The company has teased a slim design version of its first product in the television segment. We don’t know how it’ll look but reports suggest the company will adopt a bezel-less display with all the smart TV features that one expects to see on TVs these days.
In addition to this, a Bluetooth certification listing, quoted by a tipster also suggests that OnePlus will be making its TV in varied screen sizes: 43-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch. Out of this, the 43-inch model will be sold only in India, while the biggest 75-inch variant will make its way to China only.
Earlier it was mentioned that OnePlus will look to keep the pricing down, by using LED panels instead of an OLED screen, but it seems OnePlus has changed its plan, probably to keep its promise of being a premium brand in check.
On Wednesday, OnePlus revealed that after a lot of deliberation, the product series will be called OnePlus TV (nobody expected that coming) and they even shared the first look of its logo for the TV series.
The OnePlus TV is its first product and this will require the brand to position it the right way. Going steep with pricing might not suit everyone’s budget, especially when nobody knows what they’ll get from the product.
What we do hope is, OnePlus will make a TV screen-friendly software platform version of Oxygen OS and partner with Google to get support for Android TV access (and thousands of apps).
It is estimated that OnePlus will push its TV in the pricing-friendly, pricing it in the sub Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 market, which is pricier than Xiaomi Mi TV series, but not by a lot. Many are expecting OnePlus to make its TV debut next month and we’ll be keeping a close eye on further developments from the company.
