OnePlus has done pretty well in the smartphone market with its products, the latest one being the OnePlus 6. And now the company has set its sights on gaining a foothold in the television segment with its first-ever smart TV.
The news about the upcoming product was shared by Pete Lau, Founder and CEO, OnePlus earlier on Monday, 17 September.
OnePlus will be the latest mobile brand to foray into this space, where we’ve already got names like Xiaomi, Micromax and established giants like Samsung and LG among others. The market is interestingly poised, with many so-called smart TVs in India selling for as low as Rs 13,000 with impressive features.
Unlike phones, the television market and its buyers are looking for options that’ll last them at least for three to five years if not more. Also, in terms of size, the production challenges to meet demand are much wider, especially with warehousing and logistics in place.
The OnePlus TV is its first product, and this will require the brand to position it the right way. Going steep with pricing might not suit everyone’s budget, especially when nobody knows what they’ll get from the product.
It’s clear that OnePlus sees home experience as its next frontier and with 5G connectivity on the horizon, the company is slowly building up its artillery. In terms of software, it’s likely that OnePlus will redesign its Oxygen OS for the big screen, offering a host of Android apps via Google Play Store.
Let’s wait and see what features and quality OnePlus TVs will come with, and if they will appeal to buyers.
