Nokia is back in the feature phone segment and this year’s IFA in Berlin saw the company launch a flip phone that supports apps like Google Assistant and your favourite, WhatsApp as well. These platforms are being run via the KaiOS ecosystem, which was first seen on the JioPhone series from Reliance Jio few years back.
Since then, KaiOS has seen investment from Google, which has ensured that popular streaming platform YouTube also works on the software built for affordable devices.
Speaking about the flip phone announced, this one is called the Nokia 2720 flip and just like the JioPhone, it supports connectivity features like 4G and Wi-Fi.
The phone has been priced at 89 euros (Rs 7,043 approx) which might sound a lot for a device like this, and we’re hoping it hits the Indian market in the coming months.
HMD Global says the phone will easily last over a week, with standby time up to 28 days on a single charge for which you can rely on the built-in USB 2.0 port. The phone weighs 118 grams, and thankfully, you can expand the storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot.
Nokia is pre-loading the 2720 flip phone with Facebook and WhatsApp, and the company has confirmed it supports Wi-Fi hotspot feature as well as GPS.
In addition to a classic flip phone, Nokia also adds a rugged smart feature phone to its lineup at the IFA 2019. It’s called the Nokia 800 and with its military-grade durability, don’t worry about breaking the phone, no matter how hard it falls.
The Nokia 800 packs rugged features to work in any conditions, even while you're wearing gloves. It supports IP68 water resistant and dust proof, drop protection and MIL-STD-810G compliant.
The design of buttons have been rubberized for ease of use when wearing gloves. In terms of pricing, it doesn’t cost a lot more than the Nokia 2720 flip phone and again, we’re hoping it comes to India.
