Motorola launched its first device to sport a foldable screen with the popular Moto Razr, which gets a hefty price tag of $1,500 (Rs 1.05 lakh approx), and will cost much higher in India when it launches. But the problem with foldable screen is they are fragile, as we’ve seen with the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and keeping them from breaking is a herculean task.
Which is why, it was important for us to know how much Motorola plans to charge for an out-of-warranty screen replacement on the new Moto Razr.
When it comes to the Galaxy Fold, Samsung offers a one-time screen replacement free of cost, but when the device warranty runs out, it charges a whopping $599 (Rs 42,000) to replace the foldable screen of the phone.
Thankfully, Motorola seems to have taken a thoughtful approach with the price of the replacement screen, and according to reports this week, the company will give you a new foldable display on the Moto Razr for $299 (Rs 21,000 approx), which is half of what you pay for the Galaxy Fold display.
Mind you, for a phone that costs over $1500, the price quoted in the report does feel less expensive, but even then, for many people, especially in India, they might prefer buying a new phone altogether instead.
After all, for over 20K, you can easily replace the Razr with phones from Xiaomi, Realme, Nokia and Vivo among others. That said, we’re eagerly waiting to see when Motorola launches the Moto Razr in the country, how it will be priced, and how much will the new screen for the phone cost for the Indian consumers.
