Looks like Google has a “lite” surprise up its sleeves after launching the Pixel 3 series this year. Industry experts have felt that Google should look at bringing a mid-range Pixel phone to fill the vacuum left by Nexus a few years back.
And latest leaks suggest the search giant might be listening to people more than we imagined. A Russian blogging site has shown us glimpses of what could possibly be the lite version of Pixel, with toned down hardware and it could get a 3.5-mm headphone jack as well.
How can we trust these guys with the alleged Pixel Lite? Well, this blog called Rozetked was one of the first to show the world pictures of the Pixel 3 series earlier this year. That’s enough to feel confident about its credibility.
The pictures also show us a Pixel phone with a headphone jack, which has been taken out of the design since the Pixel 2 launched in 2017.
Having this and mid-range specifications could ensure that the so-called Pixel Lite could get an accessible price point, much closer to what the OnePlus 6T (starting at Rs 37,999) costs in a country like India.
The blog also highlights that the Pixel Lite, in addition to sporting a headphone jack, gets a 5.5-inch screen with 1080 pixels resolution. It is likely to get plastic finishing, and come with a Snapdragon 670 processor, with 3GB or 4GB RAM options.
What might excite you the most about the Pixel Lite is that it’ll carry the same camera optics and capability as of the flagship Pixel 3, which has been getting rave reviews from across the board.
Google has repeatedly said that the Pixel series wouldn’t look beyond the premium category, but Nexus was never truly replaced. Could this device actually be a new brand that Google launches to compete with brands like OnePlus? We’ll have to wait for that. For now, let’s take this news with a pinch of salt.
