Another week, another round of rumours about Apple and how its 2018 range of iPhones are going to line up. According to a KGI Securities note reported by MacRumors, Apple will roll out three iPhones this year that will carry forward the design imprints of the iPhone X.
There’s a lot of interest around this subject right now, especially since reports have emerged suggesting Apple might cull iPhone X less than a year after its launch.
Interestingly, Ming-Chi Kuo, the analyst at KGI Securities, highlighted the possibility of Apple making a lower-end variant of the iPhone X, that misses out on the high-end bells and whistles of its namesake.
Kuo believes that the flag-bearing iPhones of 2018 will get a 6.1-inch bezel-less screen, while the bigger iPhone variant, likely to be the ‘Plus’ could sport a 6.5-inch display. If you include the launch of iPhone SE 2 sometime in second quarter of 2018, then Apple could flood its product portfolio with as many as four different iPhones this year.

The toned-down avatar of iPhone X will feature an aluminium frame, but won’t support 3D Touch, sport a single-lens camera at the back and smaller sized memory, compared to what you’ll see on the standard models.
But the most important news for iPhone buyers will be the prospect of getting big-sized battery on the upcoming devices. Going with screen size over 6-inch forces Apple’s hand to pack bigger battery units, which according to Kuo are likely to range between 3,300 to 3,400mAh in size.
Apple seems to have done the bulk of design work on iPhone X in 2017, which is why, we’re mostly expecting the upgrades to be minimal, centered around upgrade in hardware at best. The research note by Kuo however, doesn’t mention anything on the ugly ‘Notch’ which didn’t impress many, and by the looks of it, could remain intact on the 2018 versions of iPhone as well.
