This car can almost drive itself! The new Volvo XC60 launched by Volvo Auto India is loaded with technology. So much so, the price tag of Rs 55.9 lakh ex-showroom, does seem pretty good value, compared to its competitors.
The Volvo XC60 comes in a single trim – the fully loaded inscription, which means you get a ton of features with it. More than what cars like the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Jaguar F-Pace offer at slightly higher price points.
The Volvo XC60 follows the family look, with a toned down front-end from the larger XC90 SUV. The front is dominated by the familiar Volvo grille, flanked by “Thor-hammer” shaped adaptive LED headlamps. The rear has large L-shaped LED tail-lamps that look quite nice at night. It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels.
The interiors are done up in a combination of nappa leather, drift wood and buffed aluminium. The front seats are powered and ventilated, with a massage function. The fit and finish of the vehicle is good, with plenty of attention to detail.

The XC60 has a pretty long features list, and it’s not just about the safety tech in the car. It comes with the usual 8 airbags, traction control, ABS etc. But over that, it has quite a few more safety and convenience features.
Take lane-keeping assist for instance, which actively uses radar to stay within the lanes, turning the steering ever-so slightly when needed. Adaptive cruise control keeps pace with the car ahead of it, accelerating and braking when the lead car does. City safe active braking will automatically brake the car if an obstruction, pedestrian or large animal is detected.
It also features automatic park-in and park-out parking assistance, to pull into a perpendicular or parallel parking spot. Air suspension can raise and lower the ground clearance as needed.
The XC60 uses Volvo’s D5, four-cylinder, 2-litre diesel engine. It puts out 235 bhp of power and 480 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel drive. It features drive modes – Eco, Comfort, Off-Road and Dynamic, which can be selected as per the terrain conditions.
Another interesting feature, also seen on the V90 and XC90 is the Power Pulse system. This eliminates turbo-lag from the engine (a bugbear of all turbocharged diesel engines), by pumping in stored compressed air to the turbocharger when the driver steps on the accelerator.
