UM Motorcycles is back at the Auto Expo 2018, and after its debut in the country at the last edition (2017) of the event, this time, they’re back with an electric cruiser bike. It’s called the Renegade Thor, and as the name suggests, it promises performance without compromising on the environment.
Thor was accompanied with UM’s first 223cc cruiser bike in India, called the Duty Ace, which also gets another variant called the Renegade Duty S. The pricing of these bikes are expected to start at around Rs 1.10 lakh, and the bike will be available from April 2018 onwards, as confirmed by the company.
UM had a sprightly start with its Renegade range of 300cc cruiser bikes in the country, but the 223cc segment is a different ball-game.
This segment brings them up against the Bajaj Avenger, and the need to match with them spec-to-spec is essential for the success of the Duty Ace.
The Renegade Thor will be an interesting addition to the company’s lineup, and with a price tag of Rs 4.9 lakh, the product definitely seems promising. It packs an electric induction motor, mated to a five-speed gearbox, and claim to offer 70Nm of torque.
They’re using 280mm Brembo disc on the front, 240mm disc at the back, dual-channel ABS in tow. Thor gets 17-inch and 15-inch tubeless tyres on front and back respectively.
Coming to the business side of the Thor, the electric bike’s lithium-ion battery is said to fast-charge up to 80 percent in 40 minutes, while taking up to seven hours to charge when using a 27 kW charging unit.
The Duty Ace gets a 223cc oil-cooled engine, mated to a five-speed gearbox, offering 17PS of power and 17 NM of torque. The speedometer is digital, and you even get a gear indicator on this one.
With a kerb weight of 140 kg and 142 kg for Duty Ace and Duty S respectively, UM has packed the bike with a mere 10-litre fuel tank, which in a ideal world, doesn’t cut it out.
But if their claimed fuel economy of 41 Km/ltr turns out to be real, then the Duty Ace could catch the eye of the buyer in an instant.
