Suzuki has launched the Burgman Street 125 at a price of Rs 68,000 (ex-showroom India), which is slightly higher than the competition but is a more modern and stylish product. The scooter, Suzuki hopes, will add to its plan of reaching 1 million customers by 2020.

This scooter comes at a time when the competition in the two-wheeler is so intense that manufacturers are in a race to come up with something different. Keeping this in mind, Suzuki India has brought this version of their two-decade old range of Burgman Maxi Scooters to India. It will compete with the Honda Activa that is the fastest-selling scooter in India.

The Burgman comes with a lot of first-in-its-class features like a port for charging your phone, a glove box in the front, a front windshield and a flexible seating position.

The flexible riding position, however, is nothing but extra space to rest your foot on a long ride. Adding to these, it also houses full LED headlamps and taillights. The Burgman has also been given a digital instrument cluster that doubles up as a speed-o-meter, odometer and the fuel gauge.

With this scooter, Suzuki is targetting youth, which means it has to have practicality as well. The Burgman has three places to store things - a 21.5 litre underseat storage, the glove box where you charge your phone and a small pocket right next to the ignition.

The Burgman borrows its engine with the Suzuki Acess 125 - the same 4-stroke 125 cc air-cooled engine that produces 8.7 PS of power at 7,000 RPM and 10.2 Nm of torque at 5,000 RPM. Suzuki claims the Burgman gives a fuel efficiency of 53 kmpl. With its 5.6 litre fuel tank, it will go about 250 kilometers in one fill up.

The Burgman is a stylish scooter and looks unusual. It will be the second most expensive scooter in the market after the Vespa and will come in three different colours. For those who are wondering if Suzuki will bring the bigger displacement (400cc and 650cc) Burgmans to India, they have no plans for that yet.
