Royal Enfield Says All Is Well With Its ‘Himalayan’ Tourer Bike

The tourer off-road bike has a few issues reported by customers that will be quickly addressed.

Media reports this month have scared off many potential buyers of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, which was said to have been recalled by the company. Apparently, the makers of Bullet have found certain issues with their first off-road tourer and have asked few consumers to send them back for further examination.

But now Royal Enfield (RE) on Monday has come out with updates on the matter, and asked its buyers to stay calm and not worry.

As it turns out, RE is carrying out a “proactive service update” of its latest motorcycle model Himalayan to rectify issues, including engine noise, hard gear shift, stand gap and change of sari guard. This update has been put into action after receiving feedback from its customers.

I want to clarify this is not a recall. Recalls are actually meant for safety-related and other large issues. In fact this (exercise by Royal Enfield) is commonly referred to as proactive service update.

When asked about the issue in hand, he said,

We have feedbacks from some customers about high engine noise. Although it doesn’t affect performance we have found a solution to it. Usually we rectify such an issue in first servicing but we are asking customers to bring their bikes earlier to get it resolved.

This update from the company will surely come as a sigh of relief for prospective buyers of the Himalayan.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan follows a new design philosophy and the company claims that it is a true-blue adventure tourer. Powered by a 411cc engine, the bike’s closest competition comes in the form of the 295-cc powered Mahindra Mojo. It is available for around Rs 1.63 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
