SUVs are the flavour of the season, and even the world’s foremost luxury carmaker, Rolls-Royce, has launched its own SUV. Meet the Rolls-Royce Cullinan that made its global debut on 10 May. The price tag: $325,000 (that’s Rs 2.27 crore without duties or taxes). In India, expect the price tag to be about Rs 7 crore, ex-showroom.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan will compete directly with the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and the Lamborghini Urus. It reeks of opulence as a Rolls-Royce should. It is considerably bigger than the Bentayga, and is based on the Rolls-Royce Phantom. It rides on 22-inch wheels.

The interiors of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan look quite similar to the Phantom. It can be ordered in a choice of leather and wood upholstery combinations – ranging from white to a dark black, with red, tan and brown in between.

The rear seats in the Cullinan, as in all Rolls-Royce cars, is built for comfort. It comes with suicide doors, that open backwards to facilitate easy entry and exit, especially for women with flowing dresses. It rides on a fully adjustable air-suspension with automatic ride control.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan is powered by a massive 6.75 litre, 12-cylinder (V-12) twin-turbo petrol motor that puts out 571 bhp of power and 850 Nm of torque with a selectable all-wheel drive terrain-response system. But unlike other SUVs, this one does not get fancy modes. You get a simple ‘off-road’ button that takes care of everything.

India will get the Rolls-Royce Cullinan at the end of 2018. The Rolls-Royce of SUVs, as it has been called by the company has taken three years to finally roll out since it was first announced.
