Uber has its work cut out if they’re to be the one-stop cab-hailing app solution in India. And for that, localising is the need of hour, which they seem to be doing in unique ways, which they say, has been demanded by users.

First things first, anyone can now book a cab via Uber and it doesn’t matter if they have the app on their phone, or not.

One feature Riders have frequently requested for from us is an easy way to request for family and friends. That’s why we are excited to announce that you can now ‘Request Rides for Others’ through your android devices.

This could be a big game changer for Uber and give them the extra advantage of reaching beyond smartphone users. Anybody with a Uber app can book a cab for his/her friend or relative, pass on the details of the cab to them via SMS.

How it Works

  • Make sure you have the latest version of the Uber app
  • Place your pin on your friends’ pick-up location and request
  • Pick your friends’ contact information from your address book
  • Select the preferred payment method

The person hailing the cab can pay the driver with cash once his journey is complete on the Uber.

Uber’s got no option but to push itself to the hilt in India, especially after they sold out their Chinese business to the Apple-funded Didi Chuxing.

Its rival in India, Ola has been rolling out slew of new services to ensure that their position in the market remains above Uber. But what this competition between Ola and Uber could offer is some happy days for the riders.
