Mercedes-Benz India launched the most expensive car in their portfolio in India, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard at Rs 10.50 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The S600 Guard is the first civilian vehicle to be certified with the highest ballistic protection, level VR10.
The car was unveiled by German Ambassador to India, Dr Martin Ney and Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.
The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard delivers the highest levels of ballistic and blast protection, available for a non-military vehicle. It is basically bullet and bombproof.
The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard has been officially certified by the Ballistics Authority and for the first time, meets the very highly stringent requirements for VR10 protection rating. These guidelines specify that the bodywork and windows must be able to withstand hardened steel core bullets fired from an assault rifle. The vehicle also has an ERV 2010 rating (Explosive Resistant Vehicles).
The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard is powered by a V12 petrol engine, which generates 390 kW (530 hp) power and 830 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission.
It pollutes less as well as it has a Euro 6 compliant engine. The car is also capable of doing a 0-100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 190 km/h.
At the Delhi Auto Expo 2016 this year the company did showcase the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard, but that had a ballistic protection level of VR 9. The company has offered the new S600 Guard with VR10 rating.
