The more things change, the more they remain the same. That's a statement that can be said for the Mercedes-AMG G63, which has stayed true to its design since 1979. With every update, it's only gained more technology and equipment, but the basic shape has stayed constant. It's known as a legendary off-road vehicle - one that went from rugged basics to uber luxury.

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 is priced at Rs 2.19 crore. The vehicle is powered by a 4-litre, twin-turbo V8 petrol motor that puts out 585 bhp of power and 850 Nm of torque. It comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive with lockable differentials and low range transmission. All this is combined with electronic wizardry that can get the vehicle out of any sticky situation as long as even one wheel has traction.

That said, it comes with large 20-inch wheels, with 22-inch rims as an option. These look sporty, but aren't meant for off-road use even though the vehicle if fully capable of tackling some extreme terrains. On-road, it can go from 0-100 kmph in about 4.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 220 kmph.

Although the G63 isn't great on interior space, it is kitted out luxuriously with leather and aluminium. The dashboard is all new with a large LCD display screen for the instrumentation and infotainment system. It's also built tough, but not many owners would likely take it off-road.

The AMG G63 is available with a three-year maintenance package that costs Rs 5.53 lakh.
