What do you do when sales are down and buyers are not picking up cars? Well, launch new ones and cross your fingers hoping they get excited enough. Maruti Suzuki has just launched XL6 MPV, under the Nexa brand, targeting buyers looking for a premium six-seater MPV.

Prices for the Maruti Suzuki XL6 start at Rs 9.79 lakh and go up to Rs 11.46 lakh. It comes in four variants in two trims, Zeta and Alpha. Both have options of a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. It is available only with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with a smart hybrid (starter-generator) system.

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is priced at a premium to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and goes up against the Mahindra Marazzo as its direct rival. The Mahindra Marazzo, however, is available only with a diesel engine, while the XL6 comes only with a petrol.

Is The Maruti Suzuki XL6 Just A Revamped Ertiga?

Yes and no. Yes, because it is built on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga’s bodyshell. No, because it has far more features compared to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, although they do share the same engine and body shell.

So what’s different? For one, the Maruti Suzuki XL6 gets completely new front-end design, that differentiates it from the Ertiga. However, when looked at from the rear, it’s not very different. The front is dominated by four-chamber LED headlamps and DRLs, with a rectangular design.

Step into the Maruti Suzuki XL6 and that’s where the difference is. It has an all-black interior, with the Alpha variant getting leather seats. It also gets a “stone” finish on the dash. The big difference is in the middle-row, where two wide “captain” seats replace the sliding bench in the Ertiga.

There are also some small feature differences. The XL6 gets cruise control and automatic climate control. It also features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, with the Alpha variant getting a reverse camera.

In terms of safety, it comes standard with two airbags, ABS and parking sensors, with the automatic getting hill-hold assist too.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine is BS-6 compliant and puts out 104 PS of power and 138 Nm of torque. It gets a five-speed manual or four-speed torque converter option, driving the front wheels.

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is aimed at buyers looking at a six-seater, MPV that is feature rich. It is aimed at young buyers, with versatile usage for their cars. A quick review of the XL6 coming soon on The Quint.
