Maruti Suzuki India will be launching the all-new 2019 Wagon-R on January 23, 2019. The Wagon-R has been one of Maruti’s best-selling models ever since its launch in 2000. It currently clocks an average of 12,000 units every month and is popular for its utility value.

The new Maruti Wagon-R is being built on an all-new platform – the Heartech platform, on which the Swift, Dzire, Baleno and Ertiga are also built. The car is slightly wider and longer than the previous Wagon-R, with a longer wheelbase giving it more space on the inside.

There are no official images yet, but there have been some spyshots of the new Wagon-R circulating on the internet.

In terms of engine choices, Maruti is offering two engines on the Wagon-R. The lower variants will come with the good-old 1-litre, three-cylinder K-series motor that puts out 68 PS of power and 90 Nm of torque, with a 5-speed manual or automated manual transmission.

The top-end Z variants will get a bigger 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol motor that puts out 83PS of power and 115 Nm of torque. This is the same engine that is in the Swift, Dzire, Baleno and Ignis.

This will make the Wagon-R a slightly more premium product and add some refinement too. It has to contend with reborn rivals like the Hyundai Santro on one end and the revamped Datsun Go.

The Maruti Wagon-R has been popular for its utility value, offering decent interior space and ease of use. The new Wagon-R tries to add a little more styling elements and gets a larger boot. It also gets more interior storage spaces.

All variants of the Wagon-R will come with dual airbags and ABS as standard now. The top-end variants get creature comforts that include powered-mirrors, a touch-screen infotainment system (that would likely offer Android Auto) and steering mounted audio/phone controls.

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R is likely to come in a total of seven variants priced between Rs 4.5 lakh and Rs 5.5 lakh. Exact pricing will be revealed on January 23, 2019.
