Maruti Suzuki will be launching its new small car, called the S-Presso, on 30 September. It has started sending out media invites for the launch (with a scattering of coffee beans in the visuals).
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is an entry-level hatchback that will compete directly with the Renault Kwid. It will likely be positioned as a micro-SUV (owing to its high ground clearance). It will be sold in the same price segment as the Maruti Suzuki Alto.
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is likely to be powered by the same 1-litre K-Series petrol engine of the Alto K10, that puts out 68PS of power and 90 Nm of torque. It will likely be offered with five-speed manual and five-speed automated manual (AMT) transmissions.
From the spyshots circulating on the internet, the S-Presso doesn’t look quite like the concept it was carved out of. In fact, it looks a little like an Alto on steroids. However, with many buyers looking for SUVs, the micro SUV segment that currently has only the Renault Kwid and Mahindra KUV100 as contenders has enough space to grow.
With Maruti staring at month-on-month drop in sales, new launches like the recent Maruti Suzuki XL6 and the upcoming S-Presso will give it more models to play with ahead of the festive season.
The Quint will be driving the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso in early October. Stay tuned for a review.
