Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, India’s largest car maker, with over 47% market share in the Indian automotive space, launched a diesel hybrid version of its Ciaz sedan. The Ciaz Smart Hybrid will start at Rs 8.23 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will go up to Rs 10.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the ZDi+ model.
Hybrid cars usually generate electric power from braking, which charges a lithium ion battery that then powers the car, increasing the fuel efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint.
An incentive of Rs 13,000 was announced in the Union budget for 2015-16 for hybrid cars in India, and the price of the Ciaz Smart Hybrid includes that subsidy as well.
The Ciaz SHVS claims to be India’s most fuel-efficient car, with a mileage of 28.09 km per litre.
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz SHVS gets an integrated starter generator, a larger capacity battery, and start-stop technology that helps the vehicle give better mileage.
The Ciaz SHVS comes with an ISG (Integrated Starter Generator), Suzuki’s new mild hybrid system – SHVS – offers engine power assistance using the motor.
