If you are looking to pick up a compact sedan, the choices are vast. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is currently the largest-selling compact sedan in India. In fact, it is among India’s top-three selling cars. It has sold an average of 16,700 cars a month for the past six months. The second-best selling compact sedan is the Hyundai Xcent, which was recently updated – it sells an average of only 3,700 cars a month.

How does the New Maruti Suzuki Dzire compare with the other compact sedans available in India? We do a side-by-side specification comparison with the most popular compact sedans priced between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 9 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Tata Tigor

The Tata Tigor is one of the most value-for-money compact sedans available in India. Tata calls it a styleback because of the way the boot neatly integrates with the rest of the car. The Dzire and the Tigor are equally spacious, but the Tigor offers slightly more boot space. The Dzire scores on a better feature list such as push-button start and Apple Car Play, although the sound quality on the Tigor’s music system is superior. If you are looking for a diesel variant, the Dzire is the better choice, but when it comes to petrol, they are almost evenly matched.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Ford Aspire

Ford Figo Aspire is a pretty good deal if you are looking for value-for-money with diesel compact sedans. It is also among the safest in the segment offering six airbags on the top-end variant. How does the Dzire fare against the Aspire? The Dzire is more fuel efficient and offers better pick up in the petrol variant. The Aspire, to its credit, also offers a 1.5 litre petrol variant with a six-speed automatic transmission, but that is the most expensive in the range. The Dzire now has slightly more luggage space than the Aspire.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Honda Amaze

The Honda Amaze is the third-largest selling compact sedan after the Dzire and Xcent. The Amaze and the Dzire are almost equally matched in terms of features, but with Android Auto and Apple Car Play on offer now as well as rear AC vents, the Dzire has an edge. In terms of performance, the petrol Dzire and Amaze are almost equally matched, but in terms of diesel, the Amaze is a better bet. The Honda Amaze also gets a larger boot.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Hyundai Xcent

The Hyundai Xcent is probably the most feature-rich compact sedan on offer. The Maruti Dzire is now almost at par, with similar features. The Xcent still offers more with a cooled glove box and a bigger boot. Both the cars are almost equally matched in terms of power specifications as well, although the Dzire petrol is slightly peppier. The Dzire also offers a 5-speed AMT option on three petrol and diesel variants, compared to only a 4-speed automatic option that the Xcent offers with its petrol variant.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Volkswagen Ameo

Volkswagen’s Ameo has been surprisingly well received. It is loaded with features as well. The Ameo diesel is the variant of choice as it has a powerful 1.5 litre engine that puts out 109 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque, with a choice of a seven-speed automatic transmission or five-speed manual. However, if you are looking for a petrol compact sedan, then the Dzire is the better car among the two. The Ameo is also the only compact sedan to offer cruise control at present.
