Maruti Suzuki has temporarily suspended production of the current Ignis hatchback, according to reports quoting dealer sources. Also, the current generation Ignis is being offered at a discount as a facelifted version is in the works. Dealers are continuing to accept bookings of the current Ignis, with discounts. There is no official word from Maruti on this yet.

The Maruti Ignis is in need of an update now, since the new Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R has just been updated and has overlapping pricing with the Ignis. It is a more spacious vehicle now and has got a substantial feature update too.

The 2019 Maruti Ignis will likely come into the market in a few weeks, being sold from Nexa branded showrooms. It will get a minor cosmetic update with tweaks to the grille and bumper on the exteriors, while we expect more feature updates to the variant line up.

Given the new safety norms coming in, it will get updated seat belt reminders and speed warnings and reverse parking sensors. All variants will have airbags and ABS as standard too. Besides that, the infotainment system will get an update too.

The Maruti Ignis has been a relatively slow seller for Maruti compared to its other products. The Ignis has been averaging a little over 2,500 units a month in sales for the past six months. Last July, Maruti stopped production of the diesel variant of the Ignis due to poor demand, focusing only on the 1.2-litre petrol model.

Maruti Suzuki has been known to axe products from its line up if they sink below 2,000 units a month average sales – cased in point being the A-Star, Zen Estilo and the Maruti Ritz. Will a facelift get the Ignis out of the danger zone?
