Updated to include bookings opening.

Mahindra will be launching a compact SUV this February and the vehicle earlier codenamed the S201 has finally got a name – the Mahindra XUV300. This compact SUV will compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport.

Update: Bookings have opened for the Mahindra XUV300. The Quint will be reviewing the vehicle ahead of its launch in early February. Meanwhile, the company has released another teaser for the Mahindra XUV300 featuring rally driver Gaurav Gill.

The Mahindra XUV300 is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli, but has been tweaked to give it the “Cheetah-inspired” look like the Mahindra XUV500. It will come with a choice of a diesel and petrol motor, with a six-speed manual transmission. An automatic is also being planned, according to reports.

The diesel is likely to be a 1.5-litre diesel (like the engine in the Marazzo), while the petrol will be a 1.2 litre turbo-charged petrol, since the XUV300 is a sub-4 metre SUV. It will be a 5-seater SUV.

See the first teaser ad for the Mahindra XUV300 below:

Mahindra is expected to load the XUV300 with a host of features to make it the best in segment, as it has done with its other vehicles. LED daytime running lamps, LED tail-lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels are part of the package.

On the inside it looks quite well put-together. Some reports claim it will offer up to 7 airbags and all-round disc brakes, although Mahindra hasn’t officially stated this. The dashboard has some resemblance to the XUV500, but looks quite well put together. Steering mounted controls reveal switches for cruise control and audio controls.

It has a touch-screen infotainment system as well as powered mirrors. There appears to be plenty of storage spaces in the front.

More details on the Mahindra XUV300 will come out in the coming days. It will be launched in early February 2019.
