Mahindra has launched a new multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) called the Mahindra Marazzo. It has apparently been inspired by a shark of the same name, with some shark-like design elements thrown in, like the supposed teeth in the grille, to the fin-shaped tail-lamps and... a shark-fin antenna.
It is a seven-seater MPV that will eventually replace the Mahindra Xylo, which hasn’t been selling too well. The Marazzo is built with a body-on-frame layout and comes with a transverse-mounted engine and front-wheel drive (like the Mahindra XUV500).
The Mahindra Marazzo comes in four variants - M2, M4, M6 and M8, with prices ranging between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 13.9 lakh ex-showroom.
At this price point the Marazzo clearly undercuts the Toyota Innova Crysta, which is its main rival, with prices ranging between Rs 14.33 lakh and Rs 22.7 lakh. It also competes with seven seaters like the Maruti Ertiga, Renault Lodgy and Honda BR-V in a similar price segment, but is much larger and heavier than these vehicles. It is also slightly cheaper than the similarly sized Tata Hexa, which is priced between Rs 12.49 lakh and Rs 17.9 lakh.
What’s interesting about the Marazzo is that it gets an all-new engine. It is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 121 bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed manual transmission powering the front wheels. An automatic transmission and petrol engine option will be available only in 2020. It currently meets BS IV emission standards, which will be updated to BS VI in 2020.
The Marazzo features a unique AC vent design, which is roof-mounted like an aircraft for even distribution of air flow in the cabin. It comes with a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto.
Two airbags and ABS are standard across variants. It comes in a seven-seater (2+2+3) or eight seater (2+3+3) seating combination. It gets disc brakes on all four wheels and electric power steering.
Here’s the TVC of the Marazzo, which takes the shark-inspiration a little too literally.
The Marazzo comes in six colours - maroon, purple, blue, white, black and silver. The top-end variant features cruise control, daytime running lamps and 17-inch alloy wheels among other features.
