Ford had us all excited when they announced that one of the most iconic muscle cars of all time would soon be coming to India, and that too with right-hand drive!

The excitement escalated further when Ford India listed the car on their website, but Mustang lovers would be a little disappointed to know that the car coming our way will be less powerful than the Mustangs that are sold in the US and UK.

It took Ford over 50 years to come out with a right-hand version of the Mustang – while that allows Ford to make the car available in more countries (like India), it might be the very reason why there is a power drop.

According to Ford India’s website, the Indian Mustang will be powered by a 5-litre V8 engine that will produce 395 horsepower (hp), 515 Nm of torque, and will have a 6-speed automatic transmission. The equivalent variant of this car in US produces 435 hp and 542 Nm torque, whereas the UK variant puts out 410 horsepower and 530 Nm torque.

The reason for the power loss could be because Ford would have had to reposition the exhaust manifold to make way for the new right-hand drive mechanism. This reduces the length of the exhaust pipe, effectively reducing the power and torque output.

Nevertheless, the car still has a mammoth engine producing typical muscle car power. Companies do tweak the engines of their models based on the type of fuel that is available in different countries, and this too could just be the result of that process.
