In Pics: Indian Drivers Were the Stars of T1 Prima Truck Racing

They were once regular truck drivers until they went through rigorous training and became professional racers.

The third season of T1 Prima Truck racing took place at the Buddh International Circuit on 20 March 2016. The stars of the race were the Indian drivers who were making an appearance in this format for the first time.

Tata Motors had shortlisted over 100 regular truck drivers almost a year ago and trained them to become professional truck racers. The best 12 made it to the Buddh International Circuit, where they were divided into two groups of six each and made to race for the pole position which came with a Rs 10 lakh award.

The races were separated into two classes – Super and Pro, which comprised of international and Indian drivers respectively.

It was the Super class though, which got all the attention.

In order to make the Tata Prima 4038.S fit for racing, the trucks were was heavily modified. They produce 370 horsepower at 2100 rpm, and are capable of speeds as high as 130 km/h.

In the ‘Super Class’ category, David Jenkins won the pole position, while Rick Collett and Graham Powell taking the second and third position respectively.

There were two batches of six drivers each who raced in .Pro Class. Jagat Singh and Nagarjuna emerged winners.
