Toyota Motors has launched the new Fortuner in Thailand, and by the looks of it, it is more than just a facelift. Named Toyota Fortuner TRD Sportivo, the car is expected to be launched in the Indian market in the later half of 2016 or early 2017.
What makes this launch interesting is that the new Toyota Innova was first officially launched in Indonesia as the Kijang, and the same car with the same features came to India recently. We hope that the company doesn’t follow suit with the Fortuner and compromise on any of the features when they launch the car in India.
The new Fortuner is powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine that churns out 174 horsepower at 3,400 rpm and an impressive 450 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,400 rpm. The engine is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission and has a four-wheel drive system called Sigma 4.
In terms of looks, the latest offering by Toyota comes with a blacked out roof, new front and rear-end design and 20-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, there is a seven-inch infotainment system and a JBL sound system with 11 speakers.
The car definitely looks promising on paper. What remains to be seen is whether the company does away with a few features to make it more economically viable when it’s launched in India.
