Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has finally launched the BR-V at a starting price tag of Rs 8.75 lakh for the petrol variant and Rs 9.9 lakh for the diesel variant (all prives, ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Japanese automaker had first showcased the car during the 2016 Delhi Auto-Expo.

The major attraction for Honda’s latest product has to be the new design language that has been followed in designing this car, called Active-Soild Motion, which is significantly different as compared to the platform currently shared by the Brio, Amaze and the Mobilio.

The first thing that pops out when you look at it is the bold front-end design thanks to the 16-inch alloy wheels, big chrome grille that integrates with the projector headlamps and sports stronger creases across the body. From the back, the tail lamp design makes it stand out.

The car will be available in six colours schemes.

The BR-V comes with 1.5 litre petrol (SOHC i-VTEC) and diesel (DOHC i-DTEC) engine options. The petrol motor produces 117 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque, whereas the diesel unit puts out 89.6 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque, these engines come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It is important to note that there is an automatic transmission (CVT) offering too, but available only in petrol and come equipped with paddle shifters.

There are plenty in terms of technology as well with the likes of smart entry, push button start, Bluetooth connectivity and comes with Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) and dual front airbags as standard across all trims.

Honda BR-V Features:

  • Engine: 1.5 litre, 4 cylinder
  • Transmission: 6-speed manual/CVT(optional)
  • Power: 117 hp @ 6600 rpm (petrol)/89.6 hp @ 6600 rpm (diesel)
  • Torque: 145 Nm @ 4600 rpm (petrol)/200 Nm @ 1750 rpm
  • Ground Clearance: 210 mm
  • Price: Rs 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

HCIL also announced that they will be working towards expanding their network in India, with a total of planned 340 facilities being set up by March 31, 2017. Leaving no stone unturned with the BR-V, the company also announced three-year, unlimited kilometres warranty, which might go a long way in luring customers.

The big challenge for the Japanese automaker could be the price tag that the BR-V comes with, the top-end model costing almost 13 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is a territory being currently dominated by the Hyundai Creta. The base model, priced at Rs 8.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), goes against the likes of Ford EcoSport, and with the recent launch of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza which has a starting price of Rs 6.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), the competition is tough.

The Mobilio, despite having a good start at the time of launch, lost momentum eventually. Will the BR-V manage to keep the eyeballs at Honda? Only time will tell.
