Post the Union Budget 2016-17, it was clear that the cars will become more expensive. After price hike announcements by Mercedes-Benz, Tata Motors, Hyundai and Honda, Maruti Suzuki too has decided to hike the prices of their entire model range available in the country.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz SHVS and Ertiga SHVS will not see a surge in price as they are hybrid models and are exempted from the infrastructure cess proposed in the Union Budget 2016-17.
The government has decided to impose 2.5 per cent cess on diesel vehicles of length not exceeding 4 metres and engine capacity not exceeding 1,500 cc while higher engine capacity SUVs and bigger sedans were slapped with a cess of 4 percent on the value of the car. These are over and above a cess of 1 percent on petrol/ LPG/CNG driven vehicles of length not exceeding 4 metres and engine capacity not exceeding 1,200 cc.
