Ford Motors has announced that they are working on integrating wearable technologies in their upcoming models.

According to the American automaker, researchers are examining the potential to link vital health information to in-vehicle technologies, including a lane-keeping assist and Blind Spot Information System.

They added that lane-keeping assist, for instance, could become more sensitive if a smartwatch sends data to the vehicle that infers that the driver didn’t get enough sleep. Or, if a driver’s heart rate increases as traffic intensifies, the vehicle’s adaptive cruise control could increase the distance between vehicles – giving the driver some breathing room.

First-time drivers can also go for virtual test drives using smart glass or simply have a walk around the showroom and see technical specifications of the cars on display as well.

Although the announcement sounds passionate, Ford is arriving late to the party. While they plan to come out with such technology ‘soon’ as they are still in research stage, companies like BMW, Volvo and even Jaguar are already rolling out these features and making them compatible with not only upcoming models but the existing ones as well.
