By 1 April 2019, all bikes above 125cc have been ordered to come with antilock braking system (ABS) by the country’s transport ministry and all manufacturers are rushing to meet the mandatory order.
This is good news for people looking to upgrade or buy two-wheelers in the country and even though we’re one month away from the mandatory deadline, most bikes have already got ABS; single or double channel feature equipped.
Here’s a list of five such bikes, priced under Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom) that now get ABS support for better safety of riders on the road.
Royal Enfield fans can finally say that the popular Classic 350 bike now gets dual-channel ABS. It is one of the most popular bikes in the premium segment, selling over 50,000 units on a consistent basis.
With the addition of ABS, the Classic 350 now costs Rs 6,000 more but even then it costs less than Bajaj Dominar 400 and Jawa 300 among others. It comes with a 346 cc air-cooled engine offering 19.8 bhp of power and 28 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and already comes with disc brakes.
The 2019 Yamaha FZ-S Version 3.0 gets updated bodywork, new LED headlamp, a new LED instrument console. In addition to this, the bike also gets single-channel ABS. Because of which, the FZ-S Version 3.0 variant with ABS has been priced at Rs 97,000 (ex-showroom).
The Japanese has retained the same 149 cc, air-cooled engine that makes 13.2 bhp of power and 12.8 Nm of torque.
TVS has also upgraded the Apache 160 RTR with single-channel ABS which has been priced at Rs 84,710 (ex-showroom) in the market. As the name suggest, the bike packs a 160-cc, single cylinder, air-cooled engine offering 15 Bhp of power and 13 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
The 2019 Honda CB Unicorn 150 is priced at Rs 78,815 (ex-showroom, Delhi), costing Rs 6500 more than regular variant. CB Unicorn is one of the many bikes to get a single-channel ABS unit and thanks to mandatory guidelines, bike riders will feel safer on the road.
This bike from Honda sees no changes in its engine or feature specs. It comes with a 149.2cc single-cylinder engine, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The bike generates a basic 12.7 BHP of power and 12.8 Nm of torque, making it ideal for daily running in city conditions.
KTM India added the new version of its 250cc bike in India, which finally gets equipped with ABS. The dual-channel ABS variant of the Duke 250 has been priced at Rs 1.94 lakh (ex-showroom).
The new variant with dual-channel ABS costs Rs 14,000 more than the non-ABS variant. Having said that, KTM 250 Duke gets switchable ABS unit that can be entirely switched off and not only rear though.
The new KTM 250 Duke ABS variant gets the same 248.8cc liquid-cooled engine which produces 30BHP of power and 24Nm of torque, paired to a six-speed transmission.
