Audi’s flagship model, the R8’s drop-top version was recently unveiled at the New York Motor Show. Slated to go on sale in late 2016, the car goes against the recently face-lifted Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet.

According to the German automaker, it is 113 kilos lighter, 14 mm shorter and 36 mm wider than the last R8 Spyder.

The new R8 Spyder’s retractable roof can open and close in a span of 20 seconds at speeds up to 50 km/h.

It is powered by a 5.2 litre V10 petrol engine that is capable of putting out 532 horsepower and 540 Nm of torque and is connected to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

These power figures, according to Audi, can make the Spyder go from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 319 km/h.

Audi will also be launching a more powerful variant towards the end of 2016, which is expected to be powered by a 601 horsepower 5.2 litre V10 engine – something like the top-spec Audi R8 V10 Plus, which was also showcased during the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo.
