New BJP Government in UP likely on Sunday

The swearing in of a new BJP government in Uttar Pradesh will most likely take place on Sunday, party sources said on Friday.

The oath taking ceremony of the new Chief Minister and the cabinet was likely to be a grand affair with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah attending the event.

An estimated one lakh people are also expected to attend the ceremony at the Kashiram Smriti Upvan in the evening.

Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states are also likely to attend.

While no official announcement has been made so far about the next Chief Minister, the sources say the name of union minister Manoj Sinha has "more or less been finalized" by Amit Shah.

A formal announcement will be made on Saturday.

Trivendra Singh Rawat to be Uttarakhand's Next CM

Former state BJP chief Trivendra Singh Rawat has been elected as the leader of the party’s legislature in Uttarakhand and will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of the state on Saturday.

Rawat, an organisational man of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttarakhand and party in-charge in Jharkhand, won his traditional Doiwala seat by defeating Congress' Hira Singh Bisht by over 24,000 votes.

Rawat, a Swayamsewak of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), is considered close to BJP President Amit Shah.

Rawat was in close touch with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter was a General Secretary of the BJP and in charge of Uttarakhand.

With UP BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya being ruled out, the names in the fray to become the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh are Home Minister Rajanth Singh and Manoj Sinha.

Sources told CNN News18 that Sinha could actually be a front runner because he does not have enemies.

Hectic preparations are underway in Dehradun for the swearing-in of the new government on 18 March, officials said.

While the names of the new chief minister and ministers are yet to be declared, state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Ajay Bhatt has informed that the oath-taking for the new ministers has been scheduled for 3 pm on 18 March.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah, along with select ministers from the Union government and central office bearers, are likely to be present at the oath-taking ceremony.
