A day after Team India crashed out of the ICC World Cup, losing to New Zealand in the semifinals, captain Virat Kohli posted an emotional message on his Instagram account, thanking the fans.

"You made it a memorable tournament for all of us and we felt the love showered upon the team for which we are very grateful," he said.

India lost to the Kiwis by 18 runs, after a run chase that got off to a disastrous start losing the top three, including Kohli, for just five runs. Some late resistance by MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja rekindled hopes, but their efforts were not enough to see the team through.

After the match, Kohli, in a press conference said that the team was sad but not devastated.

“We are sad but we are not devastated because of the kind of cricket that we played in this tournament. We know where we stood as a team and today we were not good enough (today) and that is the nature of this tournament. A bad day in the knockout stage you are out of the tournament,” he said.

“I don’t think I’d like to break things down immediately, but in time we’ll have to sit down and analyse where we went wrong and the things that we could have done right, particularly in this game,” he added.
