Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan smashed his second straight century at the ongoing World Cup during their match against West Indies on Monday, 17 June.

This 83-ball ton – his 9th in ODIs – comes after the 32-year-old had scored a 121 against England in Cardiff on 8 June.

Shakib is the fourth Bangladeshi batsman to score consecutive hundreds in ODIs. Shahriar Nafees (2006), Mahmudullah (2015) and Tamim Iqbal (2015) are the others to have achieved the feat.

The all-rounder went on to score a magnificent unbeaten 124 off 99 balls to help Bangladesh record a comprehensive seven-wicket victory and script the second highest successful run chase in World Cup history.

In the process, he also reached the personal milestone of scoring 6000 ODI runs in his 202nd innings.

Just four matches into the tournament, Shakib has also broken the record for most runs for Bangladesh in an edition of the World Cup. He went past Mahmudullah’s 365 scored in 6 matches of the 2015 WC.

Liton Das also played a big part in the win as he remained not out on 94 off just 69 balls in a brilliant batting show. The Shakib-Das stand for the unbroken fourth wicket yielded 189 runs from 22.3 overs to take Bangladesh to 322 for 3 in 41.3 overs and notch up their second win in the tournament after their 21-run victory over South Africa on 2 June. The unbeaten partnership is Bangladesh’s best in World Cup matches.

Shakib and Liton’s stand is also the highest partnership in the ongoing edition of the ICC World Cup.
