Vijay Shankar Might Be Dropped?

Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, who is an expert with Star Sports, informed during the pre-match that Vijay Shankar will make way for Rishabh Pant.

Let’s see how right Mr. Manjrekar is?

Shankar Has Looked Solid With the Bat: Kohli

Vijay Shankar, who batted at number four in the previous matches, batted really well, feels Kohli. “I personally feel that he looked really solid and there’s not much that needs to be tickled. Sometimes n cricket, you need a bit of a luck to come over from 30 to 60 but you play a defining knock for the team.”

And Virat is confident that Vijay Shankar is going to play that knock for India.

England Decide to Bat, Pant Replaces Shankar

England’s Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bat first against India in Birmingham.

Rishabh Pant makes his World Cup debut for India. He replaces Vijay Shankar in the playing XI. Captain Kohli said Vijay Shankar has a toe niggle.

Meanwhile for England, Liam Plunkett comes in place of Moeen Ali.

Playing XI

India (Playing XI): Lokesh Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli(c), Rishabh Pant, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni(w), Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah.

England (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan(c), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler(w), Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood.

Captain Has a Word of Praise for Pant

"Once he gets going, he's very difficult to stop," Virat Kohli on Rishabh Pant.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 1st Over - 9 Runs

Good start for England. Makes sense why England wanted to take the risk with Jason Roy. Mohammad Shami hit for two boundaries. But the seamer is getting good bounce and pace. Good signs for India.

England: 9/0 in 1 over.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 2nd Over - 1 Run

Bumrah compensates for the expensive first over. He gives away only one run. Bairstow taking his time against Bumrah, plays five dot balls before taking a single down the thirdman.

England: 10/0 in 2 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 3rd Over - 4 Runs

Better over from Shami. Bairstow again plays five dot deliveries but hits a boundary off the second ball of the over. The English opener survives a scare. First a LBW call and then an inside edge which missed the stump.

England: 14/0 in 3 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 4th Over - 5 Runs

English openers are making sure they hit a boundary in every over. Till now they have been successful as they hit Bumrah for a four of the penultimate ball of the over. World Cup debutant Pant makes a valiant dive but the outfield looks to be fast enough.

England: 19/0 in 4 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 5th Over - 9 Runs

Another good over for England. Apart from a boundary, they manage to take 2 twos. Shami hasn’t been lucky. Bairstow again survives an inside edge which missed the stumps. Both Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow looking good.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 8th Over - 9 Runs

The English openers are taking a liking for Chahal. Kohli’s move of bringing in a spinner early is backfiring. Roy hits Chahal for back-to-back boundaries.

First one was crashed through the covers while the next one was hit over midwicket.

England: 46/0 in 8 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 9th Over - Maiden

Finally a maiden over for India. Bumrah is looking good among the Indian bowlers. Bairstow plays six dot deliveries, not taking any chance against Bumrah.

England: 46/0 in 9 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 10th Over - 1 Run

End of first Powerplay and certainly it has gone the England way. It looks like the hosts were missing Jason Roy at the top. With Roy back even Bairstow is also looking better. Meanwhile, the Indian seamers have bowled well but have been unlucky that haven’t got a wicket.

England: 47/0 in 10 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 11th Over - 13 Runs

Roy and Bairstow give Hardik Pandya the best welcome possible. They are planning to take the attack the Pandya.

First, Roy hits him for six over long-off. He follows that with a four at cover.

Earlier in the over, Pandya appealed for a caught behind which was turned down by umpire Aleem Dar. Later replays showed that ball brushed the gloves on the way.

England: 60/0 in 11 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: England on the Surge

In the last three overs, England have scored 39 runs. Both Kuldeep and Chahal have been taken to the cleaners by the English opening pair. Chahal has been hit for three sixes in these two overs while Kuldeep has gone gor two boundaries. Meanwhile, Bairstow brought up his fifty.

England: 112/0 in 16 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 17th Over - 12 Runs

Jason Roy brings up his half-century in the over with a two down long-on. He follows that up with a huge six down the ground. it looks like the break hasn’t spoilt Roy’s rhythm.

England: 124/0 in 17 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 19th Over - 11 Runs

It looks like England are now planning to hit one six per over. The openers know that they bat deep so they are throwing that hands at everything. Bairstow hits a huge six over deep square leg boundary. It is looking ominous for India.

England: 141/0 in 19 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 20th Over - 4 Runs

Hardik Pandya back into the attack and does well. A quiet over after a long time. England scores only four runs in the over.

England: 145/0 in 20 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 21st Over - 10 Runs

150 up for England!

Kuldeep again starts the over with a six over long on. Intelligent cricket from the duo as they rotate the strike for the next few deliveries. But Kuldeep ends the over strongly with two dot balls.

England: 155/0 in 21 overs.

OUT! Jadeja Takes a Beauty to Dismiss Roy

(Photo: AP)

Finally, India get the much-needed breakthrough. Substitute fielder Ravindra Jadeja takes a blinder at long-on. Jadeja runs to his left, dives full length and picks the ball just inches from the ground. Roy fails to red the top-spin from Kuldeep as he goes to the pitch of the ball to hit the shot.

England: 160/1 in 22.1 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 25th Over - 7 Runs

Despite the fall of Roy’s wicket, England maintaining a run-rate of over seven. Bairstow hits another boundary to inch closer to his century. Kuldeep not having a great day despite the wicket.

England: 180/1 in 25 overs.

CENTURY! For Bairstow

(Photo: AP)

English opener Jonny Bairstow finally scores that elusive ton in the World Cup. He brought up his century in 90 balls which included 8 fours and 6 sixes. For the first time in the competition, Bairstow has been in his elements as he completed his first World Cup century.

England Cross the 200-Run Mark

India have been able to put brakes on England’s scoring. The run-rate after a long time has come below seven but both Bairstow and Joe Root are looking good. Shami back in the attack for India.

England: 204/1 in 31 overs.

OUT! Bairstow Goes Back

(Photo: AP)

Shami strikes. India finally sees the back of Jonny Bairstow but the damage has been made. Rishabh Pant takes the catch at deep cover after Bairstow tried to slash hard at a slower delivery outside off-stump.

England: 205/2 in 31.4 overs.

OUT! Now, Eoin Morgan Back in the Hut

Couple of low-scoring overs and India are bearing the fruit. Shami takes his second wicket in as many overs in his second spell. English skipper Morgan top-edges a short ball outside off-stump. Kedar Jadhav runs in from fine-leg to complete a good catch. A wicket-maiden for Shami.

England: 207/3 in 33.4 overs.

No Boundary For England in Last Nine Overs

With the pacers back in attack, India have pulled things back in the last ten overs. Shami has bowled and excellent second spell taking two wickets for three runs. Hardik Pandya is also doing well to tighten the screws. England’s run-rate is now below six. Joe Root and Ben Stokes at crease.

England: 216/3 in 37 overs.

KL Rahul Injury Update

Rahul had missed a diving catch at the boundary which led to his injury and saw him leave the field. Since his injury has been deemed to be an external injury, which means he can bat at any number despite being off the field for a significant period of time.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 40th Over - 15 Runs

Ben Stokes ups the ante as he hits Chahal for a four and a six in the same over. After a long time England take more than 10 run an over. Apart from the big strokes, Stokes has successfully rotated the strikes.

England: 245/3 in 40 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 42nd Over - 12 Runs

Chahal’s misery finally ends. The leg spinner has had a forgettable outing with the ball. He finishes with 88 runs from 10 overs without any success. This is Chahal’s most expensive figures in ODI history. In his last over also he is hit for a six and a four.

England: 265/3 in 42 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 44th Over - 9 Runs

England looking good for a 300+ score. Both Stokes and Root hitting the important boundary every over. Hardik Pandya finieshes his 10 overs for 60 runs without any wicket.

England: 277/3 in 44 overs.

OUT! Shami Dismisses Root

Root scoops a ball from Shami on the leg-side but ends up getting caught at fine leg by Pandya. Root’s dismissal brings in Jos Buttler who hits Shami for a six over deep mid wicket.

England: 289/4 in 45 overs.

Fifty For Ben Stokes

Fourth half-century for the English all-rounder. Stokes reached his fifty in 38 balls and included 3 fours and 2 sixes. But the job isn’t over for Stokes. He needs to stay there till the end to make sure England cross the 350-mark!

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 47th Over - 17 Runs & 1 Wicket

For the first time in the match Shami goes for 17 runs. After Stokes hits him for a four off the first delivery of the over, Buttler smashes him for a four and six. But Shami had the last laugh as dismisses Buttler. Shami nearly spilled the caught and bowled opportunity.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 48th Over - 9 Runs

Bumrah continues his good work in the death overs too. He is hit for a four after a long time.

England: 319/5 in 48 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 49th Over - 15 Runs & 1 Wicket

An eventful over from Shami. He gets the wicket of Chris Woakes off the first delivery. But after that Stokes hits him for a 6, 4, 4. After a decent bowling all throughout, Shami leaked to many runs in his last three over but again he has taken five wickets. With this Shami now has 13 wickets after three matches.

England: 334/6 in 49 overs.

Eng vs Ind Live Score: 50th Over - 3 Runs & 1 Wicket

The last over can’t get better than this. Not only Bumrah gave three runs but also picked up the important wicket for Ben Stokes, who played well for his 54-ball 79. Bumrah (1/44) is tad unlucky to finish with only one wicket as he was only Indian bowler who gave away less than six runs an over.

England: 337/7 in 50 overs.

India Need 338 Runs to Win

India will be chasing a record target of 338 to register a win against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Till date, India have never chased a 300 plus score at the World Cup.

Meanwhile, England will be looking for their first World Cup win against India since 1992. The last time the two sides met at the World Cup was in 2011 in Bengaluru which ended on a tie. Coincidentally, India had made 338 against England in that match.

Mohammad Shami is on a Roll

It took Shami only three matches to become India’s highest wicket taker in the competition. And if that is not enough, Shami is now fifth on the highest wicket takers list of this edition of the World Cup.

In his first match of the World Cup against Afghanistan, Shami finished with 4/40, then against West Indies he again picked up four wickets for a stingy 16. On Sunday, he took his first five-wicket haul in ODI cricket as he finished with 5/69.

England win by 31 runs.

Ind vs Eng Live Score: England Stay Alive

Jonny Bairstow is named Man of the Match as England pick up two points from this game and move back into the top four of the points table.

Every team has lost a game here and there. No one likes to lose but we have to accept it, take it in our stride and accept that the opposition played better on the day. The mood is absolutely same in the dressing room. It’s a setback but as professional cricketers we have to understand that we have to learn from it and move forward
Virat Kohli

Virat on Dhoni

It’s upto the discussions between the two batsmen in the middle. I think MS was trying really hard, trying to get that boundary. It was just not coming off. They were bowling good areas and it wasn’t easy to get those boundaries when it got to us needing 15 an over. We’ll have to sit down and assess and improve on things in the next game.
Virat Kohli
