Courtesy India’s 125-run win over the West Indies, the Men in Blue have moved to the second spot in the points table. On the other hand, after yet another loss, Windies have been knocked out of the World Cup.
However, despite this win, India are yet to qualify for the semi-finals.
Similarly, New Zealand, who were unbeaten in the World Cup till Wednesday’s loss against Pakistan are also on 11 points from seven games but are one spot below India, courtesy inferior net run-rate.
The only team to have qualified for the semi-finals of the World Cup is Australia, who topping the points table with 12 points from seven games.
As far as the standings of other teams are concerned, Afghanistan continue to stay at the bottom of the table, having lost all their games. They too are out of the race for a semi-final berth along with South Africa and West Indies.
Hosts, England after their loss against Australia continue to be fourth on the points table. They have made their life difficult with back-to-back losses and are now competing with Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka for a place in the semis.
Also the likes of West Indies and South Africa being knocked out of the World Cup leaves Sri Lanka with a chance to fight for a qualification spot, provided they win all their remaining matches.
